    Hey

I'm wondering if somebody knows of a a program that allows me to import a wav file and program a bass track over it. I currently use reason, but importing wav files is a bit of a pain, and you usually have to start at the beginning of the track to hear the wav (which makes programming the bass tedious). I know you can get a program called Record, but i would rather use a different program.

So i am pretty much looking for a programme that is specifically for programming bass over a wav file, cheers

So you're basically looking for a sequencer capable of hosting midi?

maybe I'm looking at this too simplistically but I'd imagine Reaper would do the job

If you want to record actual bass guitar and not midi then you can use Audacity. It's free.

It would work as a sequencer, yes. But you still need *something* to act as an instrument (example: a free soundfont player like rgcaudio sfz + a bass soundfont).

You could try to sync Reaper and Reason using Rewire, but I wouldn't recommend it.

maybe i wasnt too clear, my wording is probably crap as i am pretty new to this.

I dont have a bass guitar, i want a program that acts as a virtual bass. So i record my guitar through my computer mic, then i need a program for the bass

thanks for the help, and sorry if i am not making much sense

    indeed this is true.
In this case the OP could use a bass VSTi within Reaper along with the guitar .wav file?

Grand, sorted. You need a sequencer that can host VSTis...there are a great many to choose from, most of them cost money, several are free. As mentioned, Reaper is free to demo. You can import your guitar .wav file - or record a new one if you have the right connections - then load a bass VSTi (a virtual bass - go to www.kvraudio.com and search for a virtual bass, you should be able to find a free one). You'll then be able to program a bass groove to go with your .wav file and mix the two.

Not to sound overly critical, but this isn't really the sort of thing you'll be able to work through intuitively. You'll ahve a bit of googling ahead of you.

Actually OP, I think Native Instruments Kontakt Player/Factory Expansion come with passable bass samples. Just find yourself a decent sequencer first though.

    Aren't those *very* bright?

Might sound good through something like Freeamp though.

Wouldn't have thought so myself, alot of the Factory Selection samples are of the sub-bass variety though. However, there's a very nice stand-up bass...ba da da da lovecats!

Stand up bass FTW... I'll post up the track when I'm done ;)

    Just another suggestion.
You could rewire reason to a program such as adobe audition (Multi track editor) Load your guitar wav onto that and then program the bass on reason.
