Computer advice needed

I'm looking to get a computer and need some advice.

The two main functions I want are cadence and heart rate monitor.

Either wired or wireless, doesn't bother me which. I also don't require PC connectivity. I was looking on CRC but there are very few reviews on their so I don't really know whats reliable.

Its for my road bike, I cycle 4-5 days a week.

    My budget is roughly €160-€180

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

This site has reviews, most of them brutally honest.

The reviews say the Cateye CC TR300TW Triple Wireless Cadence and Heart Rate Bicycle Computer is good, but I didn't read many reviews. Some more digging by you might locate a few more good ones.

    I prefer wired to wireless.

The Polar 200CAD has been recommended here before and is available from CRC for EUR111.00 which is well within budget.

Garmin Edge 305 is great and might just squeeze in under your budget. It's pretty wireless in that your speed sensor is 20,000km away :)

I have CS200cad - had to post it back today as stopped reading speed/distance after only 6 months. Not impressed.

Personally if I was buying again I'd get a Garmin, and probably will in the future (ie more money!).

Also the software that comes with the Polar is very basic and won't tell you much about your stats.

    Go Garmin!

I've just found out that the Green Joker Poker Deepstack poker tournament in February 2010 is down from the 2009 €1,650 entry to €550 entry.

And I sold my unused Garmin 205 recently.

So I must buy something. That's logic, boards.ie cycling forum style. :pac:

Garmin 305 is a good option IMHO

My CS200 does my head in. Plenty of great functions but the wireless setup is far from perfect. It regularly loses signal, especially if left idle for more than 30 mins (big problem on boards spins!) and even reported a max HR of 238.

These seem to be common enough problems with wireless computers, but if I was buying again I would choose a different model or brand.

I think my next one will be the Garmin Edge 500.

I'm think of setting a reminder at 1 month before my warranty goes and if I've any prob's between then and now just return it to Wiggle. I'm not happy at all with over €100 spent and this. My cheap €30 works day in and out on my commuter and I don't think has once misread the speed!

Yup, my cateye Velo 5 is fairly solid for what it does (reads speed!) and Blorg's timely advice about wired computers a while ago is true. Wireless looks great, but it can be an awful PITA.
