When retro wasn't retro

Anybody here own their retro machines from new? That is, went out and bought it themselves or got it as a present when it was new in the shops? Or are we all eBay-snipin', rose-tinted-spectacle-wearin' man-children?

Most of what I own I've had from new, though I've constantly been adding to the retro stuff as I go. Think my obsession with all things retro stems from my entire NES, SNES, Megadrive and game boy collections being stolen about 14 years ago! Started off trying to replace what I had and it's grown from there. (Still haven't replaced the NES though)

Ouch, that sucks about the stolen collections! :(

I've bought about 10 consoles on release since 1992. The other twenty or so would be well after release/second hand market.

I have a Wii and 360 but don't really play them to be honest. Don't know if I'll bother with the next generation of consoles. Welll...I say that every generation but give in in the end!

I have a rule. Never sell anything because you'll end up missing it and buying it back. Unless it's Kane and Lynch or the Darkness, those games sucked.

Still have my C64, Megadrive and PS1 along with the other consoles I got. Only thing missing is a Brick Gameboy that some prick stole on me at the gaeltacht.

Yep, never sell a thing. Unless of course it's a double. But even then I have my reservations. (What if the original breaks?!)

I bought a Nes from my friend years ago. His little brother (Who was about 5 at the time) came around a year later asking for it back. I didn't have the heart to say no.

I owned most things from the Speccy onwards at one time or another, but sold them as I needed new tech.
Now however those days are gone and I do not trade in as I trade up.

And ironically enough, I own some consoles in my retro collection for over 15 years, which means that new consoles at that time are now retro consoles themselves! Ha, now, think about that!

Erm, not really. The only things I have from new is a GBC, GBA and an SP. And a PS1 but that doesn't count as it's not my original one.

Why? I was too young/not born around the 8-16-32(ish)bit eras.

    Retro retro. I like it.

My Megadrive is 17 years old. And it was new when I got it. Still works perfectly. So does the copy of Sonic that came with it.

Controller is a bit mangled though!

    In roughly chronological order ... 3 Spectrums (16K, Spectrum+, Spectrum128), a Commodore 64, then an Amiga, a Z88, a Gameboy, an Atari Lynx, a Megadrive, a Dreamcast (one of 6), PS1, PS2, XBOX and XBOX360 from new.

I also had an Acorn Electron and an Atari ST which bizarrely were the only things stolen in a break-in.
