Hello to all. I am wondering could somebody help me. I have found a TREK 1500 with a 58cm frame. it has all the usual spec shimano ultegra. It also has LOOK 247 peddles, cateye speedo etc. Its the 2007 model i think. it is the royal blue in colour. The lad that is selling it, said he gave €1400 for it when he bought it new. Now I have to say that the bike is spotless, there isnt a scrap to be seen. it still has the plastic covering on the pedal stem. he said that he woulnt have 200 miles on it, and judging by how it looks i would believe him. I am just wondering what it is actually worth or what should i be buying it for. i dont want to get screwed. would he have given €1400 for it when he bought it?????
    Any help would be great,

    Many thanks in advance.

1350 was the cheapest I saw those at retail in 2007. 1400 sounds about right.

That being said times move on and you get a lot more for your money these days. For a start the bike scheme has destroyed the resale of bikes in this price range, secondly there are new versions of that groupset (it has since been superseded by Ultegra 6600SL and 6700). That being said its still a fine bike.

I would not pay more than 700 for it though and would only be tempted at less than that. Whats he looking for ?

I've the same bike. Great bike. Zero comfort but it reacts well and handles good too. Its RRP was €1599 back in 2007. I'd def put a value of €1000 on it minimum especially if its relatively unused. You won't get too many bikes as good with ultegra gear as cheap. You'd have a great bike if you could get it that cheap.

You'd pick up a brand new 1.2 for that money. Surely an ultegra spec bike is worth more than that. Its got discovery channel stickers!:p

I got quoted 600 for a trek 1.2 that is supposed to be less than a year old. Not sure if this this is a good deal or not though?

1599 was RRP (and was charged by many - but not all Irish shops - I won't name names but it was possible to get it for 1369 in many places).

These are a good solid bike, many of our club use them as winter bikes and even race bikes, my personal like of Treks is well documented, I have many bikes but won't sell my old Trek 5500.... but... the market has moved on, the discovery logo's date them and make them less desirable as does Treks own model numbering and design which has since changed. Not to mention that nowadays you can get a full carbon Planet X with Ultegra 6700 delivered for less than 1200 euro, or with an Ultegra, FSA, DiaCompe mix for about 1050. Also the Focus Cayo's and the boardmans are cheap and full carbon etc... You can't compare its price with what it used to be, you have to compare it with whats out there right now.

If you bought a bike for 1400 in this country its effectively worth less than a 1000 resale that same day because of the bikescheme. (Lower end machines are holding their value a little better). In light of all that, including the fact that a mate sold a full carbon 2007 specialized tarmac with Dura Ace and Eurus wheels for 850 earlier this year I reckon that lad will still be trying to sell that bike 12 months from now unless he finds a sucker or has the price close to the 700 mark.

    Thanks.

i've no experience in this area, so i wasn't sure if this was a deal or not. The bike he showed me looked immaculate to be fair.

Cheers for that, he was looking for as near to €900 as he could get. I dont think he will drop more than that, I mite get it for €800.

800 wouldn't be the end of the world if its mint and has the pedals, computer, cages etc... Its a versatile bike, good enough for a bit of racing and cheap enough that you could use it as a winter hack. A year round bike and a good all-rounder.

€500 tops if it was normal condition.

It may be immaculate now, but once it's been ridden a bit it will be pretty indistinguishable from any other bike of the same age.

What's the premium for a couple of months of newness? Less than €200 on top of the €500 I'd say.

It's worth whatever someone will pay for it, but €900 is very optimistic.

Sorry, no I wouldn't agree wth Jollylee on the price. Its a good bike, but I think there's a bias that we all have when we are evaluating our own stuff and we tend to price towards the higher end of the scale. I'm not saying its not worth 1000, but there is no-way that it will fetch that much fortunately for you (unfortunaely for Jollylee should he want to sell).

Lets face it, the Lidl bike had the exact same groupset, better wheels, similar carbon fork, and although its frame wasn't as good (but about the same weight), it was around 800 new, now I'm not advocating buying that bike but it could be a bargaining point.

Bikes depreciate like cars and lose a lot of their value early in life. Trek's link with pro-teams unfortunately depreciates and dates their higher end bikes quicker than most.So a bargaining point is the dated discovery logo's, the fact that the 1500 is now discontinued, the Ultegra being superseded by 2 new models, the price of the superior specced Planet X, Focus Cayo, Boardman Team etc.... and last but not least the bike scheme making bikes in this price range the most popular to buy new (literally they could not keep them in stock this year) thus tearing the backside out of the secondhand market in the same segment. Use that to bargain... Good luck.

I got a new 1.2 last june for €650, depending on usage but I'd say €500 to €400 would be a well argued price for the buyer...

I got a new 2009 model 1.2 in the North last January for STG£500. When I tried to sell it a while back the most I was offered was €350 (so I kept it as a winter trainer). Only problem with Treks is that you have to collect them in person, they cant be bought online and delivered (officially)

What was your asking price after how many miles?

I think I had it up for €500 (would have taken lower). It had done about 4,000kms. At the time the same bike was still around €800 in wheelworx.
