Hey all, not sure if this is the right place to post but I'l give it a go.

My girlfriend is really into books. She has an awful amount of them as it is. Recently she has being talking about collecting 1st editions (and old nicely bound books)and it was always her dream to do it and now that she is qualified in what she is doing she can afford them. She hasnt started collecting yet, but thats because she just hasn't found the time.

I was wondering if there is anywhere in ireland that would specialise in old books like these. I only want to spend between 200-400 euro on one to get her started, obviously she'l be paying quite alot more for her first editions. Basically I'm looking for a nicely bound book that will look good in the library(where putting a library in the house). She'l have it forever(unless we break up and then she might burn it, only joking) so I want it to be nice. Some of her favourites are:
    jane eyre
    tom jones
    wuthering heights
    lord of the rings
    the hobbit

there is a store in Dublin called The Cathach, which tends to have old and rare editions. i believe it is in Duke street.
Kennys of Galway (just online) is also good tip.

Carraig books in Blackrock, Co. Dublin should be good. Definitely Kennys in Galway. They have a special 1st edition and limited edition section for particularly valuable books. Best to give Des Kenny a call, he'll be able to advise you further.

    Hi degsy,

it would be preferrable if you could post these in adverts.ie first. There is no for sale section in the general collectibles and antiques forum area. As far as I am aware there may be a special collectibles section on the new adverts.ie when it comes up. For the time being the General Sale should be used when posting ads.

    Thanks,
    P.
