Interesting stuff. Has this cart/rom ever been dumped? Given there are so few of them about...

I'm pretty sure it has been dumped.

I'm not sure if I'd prefer this or an english language earthbound prototype for the NES. I've more affection for earthbound but this game has mystery :)

They say on the ebay advert, "WE NEVER USE STOCK PHOTOS", yet the photo is exactly the same as the one on 1up

    I smell a fake!

The post on 1up is using that photo because that post went up because of that ebay listing :)

Are you actually considering bidding RetroGamer?

Not a chance :) I had to send an email to my cousin in Konami to try and get me modern warfare 2 because I ahdn't the money to get it :) Not sure where I'd get 2000 grand from!

Could you not have asked him to send you a more interesting game? ;)

Air Raid is a weird one alright. All cartridges should have a handle!

I'm sure the bank'd be delighted to lend it to you!

Bank: Welcome what can we do for you
Retr0: Well I'm looking to borrow some money, about €3000
Bank: Sure no problem, first car eh?
Retr0: No actually it's this awesome super rare atari 2600 cartridge.
Bank: (pressing security button rapidly) Oh? Please go on!
Retr0: Yeah there's only like 6 in the world! And *looks up at security* ah, right. I'll be off so :(

If I had enough money to buy an Air Raid cartridge I'd buy Escape From Mount Drash instead.:D

Wow! Time to talk to the bank manager :)

I finished that game a few months ago. It's a bit archaic but as a piece of history it's really interesting especially how well the translation was and how surprisingly emotional the end of the game is. Not a patch on the SNES game due to how difficult it is and the grinding involved, but an interesting foot note. Must play Mother 3 when I finish Pokemon, I heard it's probably one of the best games ever.

I have a valid 10% off ebay promo code if that'll help ya? :D

Haven't played it myself, but have heard good things alright. It would be nice to own something like that for the history associated with it alone.

From reading the auction it seems it's the exact one that was found in that U.S garage sale job lot that had lots of goodies in it. How things get around.

Well I wouldn't recommend it to anyone but the curious. It's very archaic, like the first dragon quest. You'll have to do a heap of grinding and the last dungeon is just totally ridiculous. You'll end up using all your MP on the normal enemies meaning you have to use a trick by disabling these brain enemies and stealing their MP. The section after that is so tough it isn't funny, your only option is to run away but at least you can run from all the battles and the last boss is much easier than any of the normal enemies in that section. I recommend a walkthrough because there's some important stuff you can miss.

Still the game has buckets of charm and the end and when you find out what Magicant really is very emotional and sad. It seems to be a theme with the Mother games. They seem really light hearted until the very end. Earthbound on the snes has the creepiest end section ever and really takes you by surprise and has a wonderful ending. I can't recommend Earthbound for the SNEs enough it's great.

I might do up a Mother 1 and 2 thread with reviews of both later on, was meaning to do it a while ago.
