I'm running on OSX 10.5.5 and am trying to burn a DVD for an assignment but the laptop just keeps spitting out the DVD.

What's the story does anyone know?

This was happening to me not long ago, and the issue was DVD drive was dead. Are you getting an error message. I got no message burning from OSX but when i tried with Toast or burn i got error messages which Apple confirmed immediately meant it was hardware failure.

I would suggest try burning wiht one of those (Burn is free) and see how you get on.

You might also check to make sure you are burning it at the right speed.

I just helped out a buddy with a Mac Mini who had similar symptoms and it turned out he had cranked up his burn speed way too high for the disk/burner.

If not, setanta5 suggestion of using a program like Toast, which has more verbose error reporting, might be a good idea.

Try another brand disc. Drives can be a bit fussy sometimes.

    Thanks!

i'm downloading burn as I type. I have a feeling it's what setanta5 was saying, a dead DVD drive. How did you fix it setanta5? Did you have to send it away? It'll cost a fortune won't it?

Sad Professor: This is the second time I've tried burning with a DVD, the last one was a different brand so I assume it isn't the DVD's.

Oh and I'm getting no warnings, burns normal CD's fine, but DVD's are a no go.

I've had something similar. A lot of the time it just spits out any disc I put in the drive. Even when it does recognize it DVD player wont. Even happens with brand new discs.

The odd thing is that once it recognises the dvd I can rip an image of it and play it in VLC but it can't play from the disc. It's also very loud.
I tried a good quality lens cleaner but that did nothing. May have to bring it to Mactivate.

I don't know if I should have added the fact that it can play DVD's fine but it won't accept blank DVD's.
