I occasionally get inquiries from recruiters or companies for jobs going in my sector. Soem interesting stuff and some not so much, but its useful overall.

Does anyone know a good way to proactively look for jobs using LinkedIn? From what i hear it is now more of a recruiting tool than anything else, so I'm guessing there are better ways to do it..

My advice would be to do a keyword search based on your own technology experience, find out what companies come up and then try and find either a senior manager or HR in that company to connect with. My friend was looking for a Business Intelligence role and he just did the keyword search, connected to senior people in companies that used it and got his current job that way.

    Hope that helps

Thanks. I'm in a very similar industry to your friend actually. I have a company in mind and a seach finds two people in recritment. You cannot add people you do not know though. One has a mutual connection, but not sure how this "get introduced through a connection" thing works really, hmmmmm

ah you can add people who you dont know as long as a few of them dont reject your request. Just send a nice email saying I dont know you but I am interested in opportunities in this area and I see your company hires people with my skills. 90% of people will accept your invitation these days.
