Anyone just hear Paddy O'Gorman on the Pat Kenny radio show say that "OAP's selling drugs on the Boardwalk to junkies" ? The country's gone mad ..

    EDIT**

Uploaded an audio clip from the show. The sound is quite low.

They weren't OAPs, they were 25 year old addicts...

    He said Anti-Depressants.

He just said it ten minutes ago and he's still being interviewed so I'd expect a few calls by midday. Although PK / RTE may realise that it's a controversial thing for him to have just said and may not wish to start talking about it again.

They'll be on to Joe @ 1.45 no doubt :)

    OutlawPete; He said Anti-Depressants.

    There is a recession on.
You can't really fault the OAPs for trying to spread a little happiness.

Pat just laughed when he said it anyway ..

Seen the show he did outside the Cash Converters on Meath St. the questions he asks people are cringe factor 10.

It's one of those mutually beneficial relationships. Junkies want drugs, OAPs want money, this kind of thing does happen. I'm sure it's not commonplace and it may be junkie OAPs that are doing this.

I said to my OH regarding what an OP said in AH, I don't know what an OAP is.

    It's hardly a new thing.

It's more likely they are selling them Valiums and Xanax.

I've met a few drug using pensioners, I wouldn't call them junkies. Your obviously under the assumption that drug users don't make it to old age which is a very wrong assumption. I've heard of ICA grannys swapping pills all the time, they don't abuse the drugs and as such have plenty left over.

Bizarre as it seems, this ain't new, though moving to the boardwalk is.

Few years back, I interviewed a guy in Arbour Hill. He'd been locked up for something he did while on Heroin. Apparently, the way he progressed from sniffing petrol fumes and whatever bad hash bigger lads sent his way was this little old lady, who got tons of prescription meds and sold them out of her house. As far as he knows, she's still doing the same thing today.

Maybe the idea isnt new but i very much doubt if OAPs are hanging round the boardwalk flogging thier meds..even the guards dont go there.

I doubt it happens that way but it does happen. More than likely between granny and some relation or neighbour their certainly not out on the street dealing.

Some will take anything, a friend of mine sells his prozac and xanax. Hes not an OAP though. I can't believe people would be surprised by this, its being going on for years.

anti-depressants are good for withdrawl symptoms or dealing with the comedown.

Yeah, it's been going on a long time. I remember a guy that lived near me in the mid 90s, who used to sell his meds, and he was in his 60s. He used to flog Diazipam, Tamazipam (spelling?) and Valium to teenagers (if you take a few of them, they make you feel really drunk).

He would then go back to his Doctor, tell him he had LOST his tablets, and ask for another prescription. Nice top up off his pension I suppose!!

LOL. Another silly boards statement. No they aren't. Anti-depressants actually make you more jumpy cos they are firing the serotonin back up. It's sedatives like the benzodiazepines diazepam and temazepam that are good for withdrawal and dealing with the comedown.

Diazepam is valium. Our should I say Valium is diazepam. Valium is the brand name.
