Question about payment of a fine

    Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me about the procedure of paying a fine.
Does it have to be paid in one lump or can you set up a payment plan with the Courthouse? I have two months to pay a €1500 fine and I'm on €230 a week and paying this (by any means really!) is not feasable. I can't go the other route of giving up goods to the same value or go to prison.

    Thanks!

You can apply to the court which imposed the fine for an extension on the time given to pay. Ring the relevant court office - you might even find they will deal with you regarding an installment plan although this is not a right, so to speak.

You can ask it be listed before the judge who originally imposed the fine and seek that more time be given.

If you don't or aren't granted extra time a committal warrant will issue if the fine isn't paid.
