I'm getting a telly for christmas and heading up north at the end of the month. should i buy a cheaper telly up there or get one down here. will a telly with freeview on it work down here? will the freeview work? is ireland ever going to get freeview and should i wait until it comes in to buy a telly?

sorry i know these questions have probably been answered on the other threads but i couldnt sift through all the jargon

Just research the main models before you go.
Google them and check their specs to see that they have an mpeg4 tuner.
If you see a tv you like-then post back here or preferably in the sticky at the top of the forum that lists tv's with mpeg4 tuners.

If you are in south Dublin,Wicklow or wexford, have a sea view or have had welsh tv through your aerial before, you will most likely pick up the Welsh digital services.
South Dublin is iffy though as aerials for wales arent common there so you'd need to be willing to spend a few bob on one which for local terrain reasons may work for you or may not.
Theres a few threads on that at the moment-have a read and ask.
The dtt transmitters from NI are low power and won't become available on a widespread basis untill they increase power which will be after 2012.

You should have no problem getting the irish digital trials with an outside aerial except if you are in one of the by now very few areas out of reach of a main tx or are in a dip shielded from one.
