I would reckon mundy - galway girl is played at the vast majority of weddings these days but my personal faves would be:
    Killers - mr brightside
queen - don't stop me now
depeche mode - just can't get enough
    soft cell - tainted love
    cure - boys don't cry
    clash - rock the casbah
george harrison - got my mind set on you
I could keep going but that's enough for now.

We decided to go with a rock band as that is what we liked, I think it was a bad decision now though as not everyone there enjoyed the music, my husband beiong a singer was up doing a few songs, the band were friends, but halfway through the bands singer did comment to my brother that he couldnt get the crowd goign with his set, my brother recommended sweet caroline, the singer didnt know it all but started off the song, most of the people got up dancing and the mic was passed around like a little game to keep it going, I have to say it was the best get going song of the night and definitely not one myself or y husband could be bothered about but it really really worked.

yeah dont stop believing is a good one too, one of the songs my husband sang. You have to take into account a lot of the people will not be listening to new songs, I mean the older generation, I had one uncle houding me for Billy Joel, my husband knew some but the band didnt so really think of the older generation. Its a pity when youve put sooo much work into the day and people dont look like they are enjoying themselves.

Definitely all these songs. Sweet Caroline is an absolute must at a wedding IMO. Galway Girl by Mundy seems to be an essential one too. It doesn't matter if you don't like that kind of music. The main thing at a wedding is to get everyone up dancing.

Google wedding bands and have a look at some websites. Some of them give you a sample playlist which may give you some more ideas.

I'll argue the jive bunny is top 5 on all set lists. Bear in mind theres an album of 4-5 minute jive bunny mixes (which Id differentiate to 15-20 minute own DJ mixes). I think theres only 1 or 2 of those jive bunny ones that work. I was at a 21st lately, and i swear with the average beeing around 21 that the jive bunny got more people on the floor then some of the top RnB tunes.

But Id also argue the pogues isnt a must have, Ive seen it work and seen it not work, its very much if the crowd are into an irish set that youre playing with maybe some saw doctors. Be interested to see if thats just a personal selection or do you gig and find it works everywhere you play it?

Oh yeah, the pogues version of dirty old town to finish off a night works great as well.

If Sweet Caroline, Come on Eileen, 500 miles, way to amarillo, don't stop believing, time of my life or Jive bunny was played at any wedding (including my own) I would walk out of the room. Cheese in the extreme!

Big reason I'm giving my DJ a very specific song list so there will be no cheesy/cringey songs

I totally agree with you and had only a small selection of cheese at my own wedding but you have to remember that most weddings have guests aged from 3 - 90 and you want to entertain a many as possible. Later in the night at my wedding we played justice, wilco, arcade fire, wiseguys, beastie boys, white stripes, lcd soundsystem etc but only after the jam, beatles, stones, van morrison, kinks etc. If you have mainly friends and family at your wedding you should be fine with whatever is played and sure if noone dances what harm but the client get what they ask for at the end of the day and they usually want a busy dancefloor and will sacrifice personal taste for party pleasers.

For example here's the playlist i received for a recent wedding. I don't usually encourage as many suggestions. As I also
specialise in indie/rock gigs, I sometimes get playlists without any chart or cheese and am happy to play them also.
