Cork City - Newbies

I currently play with 7/8 workmates in a monthly game for €20 buy-in, winner takes all. Small stakes I'm sure. None of us have ever played in a casino but are interested in doing so. However I must admit we are a bit intimidated by the whole scene.
Firstly, from what I've found out there are 2 main casinos, The Macau & The Bank. For newbies/fish, which is friendlier/more helpful in showing you the ropes? We obviously know the general rules of the game but casino etiquette is another matter.
I guess we are looking for a small buy-in tournament where we won't be eaten up or laughed out the door. Any recommendations?
Also, what's the story in general with grub/drinks? Do you pay or is it provided FOC?
Any other info/advice I should be aware of in order not to make t*ts of ourselves.
    Thanks.

The bank casino would be the more friendly casino. the lads running it are poker players and look after there customers very well especially new players.
They have tournaments every night for all pockets, saturday is a €20 freezeout and there are freerolls monday wednesday and friday at 9, i cant remember whats on the other nights
just call into them some night and they will show you the ropes

The bank is definitaly the place to go to for what your lookin for , the lads are very helpfull and as said are poker players themselves , i play in both and try to stay out of the which casino is better and this and that threads but for what your lookin for the bank is definatly the more comfortable and user friendly card room:) and im sure the lads would accomadate for any game you guys would like to play even if was just for the 7/8 of you to start of just to get the casino/cardroom experiance.

its lucky craigb likes to stay out of the politics of both clubs or he might tell u to go to the BANK CASINO

now both clubs are good for u i say and if u want to find out what there like go in to one of there freerolls it cost nothing unless u lose your first buy in then it 10 euro rebuy but it would give u a inside look at how they run .

if u look up any of the below u get to see what touries are on each night

    www.macausportingclub.com and www.bankcasino.com

as far as getting to know casino etiquette no matter were u go u just pick up that as u go nothing really to worry about .
in both clubs there free tea and coffee and bickys but the macau has a full kitchen with cheap price meals not to sure about bank if there one still going

ps . dont worry about making a tit of yourself everyone does it sometime in there lives
and some do it loads of times its part of life .

My first attempt to go to the bank a few weeks ago left me turned away as id forgot some photo id so friendly wouldnt be the word id use craig, i dont think in the current economic climate any business can afford to turn away business. And im hardly a total stranger.

Little thing called anti money laundering laws, ID is of absolute necessity.

Why not stay away from the casinos for bit and try some live poker in your local “Poker in the pub” have a league started in the Anglers Rest, Ballincollig and a lot more pubs in Cork will be starting soon and all for just a €10 why not visit the web and take a look, http://www.pokerinthepub.ie/Home/tabid/38/Default.aspx
going to the pub would be a lot less intimidating and im sure the banter and crack will be great too, and if you do make tits of yourselves then you can just blame it on the drink LOL :D, after this you could then be a little bit more prepared for live casino poker, anyway good luck at the tables

Regards Paddy @ Winstons Poker (in the pub) ;)

i think enter one of the tournaments 2 get used 2 the game/rules etc dont play them freerolls they dont improve ur game just make u more frustrated by guys moving all in blind and just gambling

I may be biased but seeing as the Macau are barred from Boards for ( to put it mildly ) sharp business practices and general lack of respect for it's customers I think the message from Boards would be go to The Bank Casino.......

In fairness places like this need to be able to come up with lame excuses to keep out even partial skangers.....

That said I\'ve never seen anyone refused entry for inability to produce ID, anything you\'re neglecting to reveal here?

I think the OP has been answered and this thread seems to be going in the expected direction which menas it should be locked at this point I think.

For this and the change to the quoted text, DEEP_THROAT is banned for a week.

Why must nearly every thread about Cork Poker end in bannings? This was also a rhetorical question, so no need for anyone to answer it elsewhere.
