Looks like the Big Power man himself is going to give the hour record a bash ! I'd be interested to see how this goes, after watching Boardmans effort only last night and previously reading Hutch's book on it, it would certainly be an interesting record to break, as much for the f*ckin around the UCI do with the rules , as well as the record itself

Interesting. You would have to think of all the current cyclists he is probably best placed to do it. Mendrisio this year was very close to an hour distance and on an undulating course, although of course he could actually use a TT bike on that one.

I could see him doing it tbh.....he's an absolute beast at TT's.

While Graham Obree abandons his bid:

Check out the chain ring on the bike he built to attempt it (67 teeth!):

It's really sad about his mental health. I watched the Flying Scotsman last week and it's worth a look.

As someone who has battled depression previously it'd the worst c*nt of a thing to shake. Meds certainly help but your never sure om what your feeling, is it medically induced, am I getting better or is it the Meds making me feel this way. Innovators like Obree should always be welcome and be part of our sport, not only do they push physical boundaries but he also evolves bikes within UCI guidelines that they never see coming.

I see he's writing a book on depression, I hope it helps him come around.

As for Fabian, he's certainly got the power but can he transfer that to a steel frame with drops. The position was a big problem for boardman and hutch.

Current UCI record holder is Ondřej Sosenka, who has a 'distinguished' doping record!! ;)

Weird bike too! Tall fella 200cm high - good leverage! The Nikolai Valuev of cycling?!?

Isn't there a UCI approved hour record and a non UCI hour record? Saw the Obree video and enjoyed it a lot. The UCI official was everything I expected him to be.

This is where I need Dr Who to transport me (and the bike) back to 1893 - I reckon that record would be just about in my sights:)

I liked the bit where they said they had tested his food for drugs, and only found traces of orange and sugar (his "energy" food comprised marmalade sandwiches):)
