    HI

I am planning of going on a holiday next year for my birthday (31yrs) for approx 2 weeks in the USA. I will be travelling alone and I am wondering for advice on where to go and any tips for travelling alone. I am thinking of going to NY for one week but am open to suggestions for the other week. Any suggestions and advice greatly welcome

    Thank you
    Molly

Wherever you want! It's your holiday after all!

Hostels are a great place to meet other people and I had a blast staying in one just off Time square for two days in May.

Alternatively you could book a tour holiday on a bus or something where you would be sure to meet some interesting folks. I'm sure some other posters here will have more info.

Safety: Common sense really, stay out of dark alleys etc...

Maybe you would find more information in the North America forum.

Travelled in the US for 6 weeks on my own this summer.

It is very different to travelling in other countries - what i mean by that is they really don't have much set up for the backpacker/traveller.

Don't use the Greyhound. Go with Amtrak - rail.

I mainly did the West Coast for the sunshine.

Bring plenty of cash - hostels over there are generally not up the standard of NZ or Australia for example where you can cook and practically live in them.

If you have any question's on hostels in the West Coast or anything send me a PM.

Well if you're in NY, you could travel up to Boston for the second week. Get the Chinatown bus, it's only $10

It depends on what you want to do / see ... You could get an internal flight to anywhere ... scenery? Grand Canion...bright lights? Las Vegas...History? Washington D.C.

Great cities? L.A. (Hollywood? The Hills?) , Chicago, San Diego, San Francisco..I hear Philidelphia is like a mini Manhattan and is supposed to be great...In 2 weeks you could also do a road trip...hire a car and hit the road... New York, Middle America, L.A., San Diego, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Mexico? Then either fly back to New York or fly direct...

Use your imagination...you can do absolutely anything...the world is your oyster :)
