    Hey everyone,
Im applying for the PGDE for English and History this year, Im from Cavan and spent the last five years in NUI Galway. Ive heard that UCD has a hectic schedule, NUI Galway hasn't a great rep, that Maynooth is best, and nothing about Cork.
so any recommendations, I dont mind shipping off wherever, or block/Seq TP. Any tips on which TP system is best, any experinces shared would be a huge help for us new applicants :)

Going to NUIM at the moment, I'm obviously going to come accross as biased when I say I think it's the best. But looking at the others in my school who travel up and down to UCD and Trinity after a hard days work in school during the morning, I just couldn't imagine putting myself through that much stress. :/

    Hi OP,

I'm in UCD at the minute doing the PGDE, having done my undergrad in NUIG.
Don't get me wrong it is tough having to teach in the morning and then go into college, but you get on with it.
Just a note on the differences between UCD and NUIG, I find UCD much more relaxed and they aren't as uptight as NUIG with regards forms and registering etc.
I also find the lecturers really understanding and will help you in any way possible.
    Hope that helps.

An advantage of the UCD system is that you have a chance of ending up with more classes more regularly as you are consistently in the school whereas people from NUIM and Trinity sometimes are hardly known in the place in my experience and they often have many classes maybe just once a week so it can be quite disjointed.

The key thing about UCD is can you handle the traveling (to and from your school) and if that is not a hassle then it's grand. But if you can't it's not really an option.

I'd be surprised if there was a significant difference between NUIM, Trinity and UCD other than that though having experienced only UCD I could not compare the actual courses in any real sense.

As someone said already you just get on with it wherever you end up - and the university year is so short anyway.

It is an awful lot of stress. Perhaps an advantage is that you create a greater bond with the classes and you will probably be in the school for 2/3 of the school days. However Maynooths system of teaching on Monday and Friday in my opinion is much better. It is a very stressful year so not having to worry about rushing from the school to lectures is a plus. I did it in UCD and often when i got back for lectures I was completly and utterly drained and simply could not concentrate
