Hi, Can anyone tell me how I can convert old cassettes to DVDs (an xmas pres for my dad).

I bought this 'video grabber' http://readeroffers.irishtimes.com/i-aa-e750-eca-3/Video-Grabber/. However it does nothing. It comes with software and the device seen on the web pic, however it comes with no instructions. From the pic it seems pretty straightforward but on hookin everything up nothin displays on computer, also it cant be seen from the picture but there is a 4th cable that cant be pluged in anywhere and doesnt make sense.

Anyway, is there any other device that can be got that is a bit more straightforward or could it be that my VCR is too old. Or is there anywhere the videos can be brought to be done.

    Many thanks in advance

The main problem when you use these converters is that you need to get a scart adaptor for you video player with a input output switch http://www.peats.com/cgi-bin/catalog.cgi?view_product=1&id=1142

Instead of spending a fortune messing around, would you no tbe better off to just buy a DVD recorder and set it up with your VHS player?

It'll take a little messing about, but there's no overly complicatedness (real word?) or messing around. Play your video, press record on your DVD recorder and wait til its over.

I bought a DVD Recorder about three or four years ago for €150, so id imagine they cost fcuk all nowadays.

Then you could slap the DVD into the PC and rip the film from that using any old DVD ripper software out there you can find.

Seems like the best idea to me, anyway. Plus you get a DVD player/recorder to keep when you're finished too.
