Hopefully signing for the purchase of a house on the 27th Nov but just wondering when do you actually get the keys of the house? Is it the day of signing or sometime after?

6 months  I presume this isnt the norm or that you mean it was 6 months after paying the deposit rather than signing the contracts?

    There's a couple of stages -

    (a) Booking deposit
    (b) Signing contracts & contract deposit
    (c) Balance of funds handover - this is when keys are released

There's usually 21 days between (a) and (b) and a piece of string between (b) and (c). This is when your solicitor checks all aspects of the contract, clarifies any legal queries, you get your financial house in order re. drawing down loan, getting your insurance cover in place and snagging the property. Once this is all done, then (c) happens.

    (b) above should also state the date for the balance to be paid (usually 90%) and the handover of the property.

It should take no more than 8 weeks if there are no major legal obstacles.:)
