I have a VW Golf 1.6 02 with 80k on clock. Great nick

When the engine is cold . Example for the first 10 mins, there is a loudish noise from the engine when I pass from 2000 to 3000 rpm and even a tiny vibration.

It stops after about 10 mins and then its fine.

Any ideas?? Just general wear and tear?

    Is it petrol or diesel?

Coild be lots of things but quite possibly an injector which isn't working properly but gets going when warm.

Can you describe the noise a bit better?

    Its a petrol. 16v model

The noise is just the engine getting louder really. Kind of a rough sound. Just comes and goes in second gear at those revs.

yeah might want to check all the fluid levels and so on.

but most likely the car might need to be warmed up before driving it.

if the car is stationery do the revs drop after a few mins on its own with no help ???

    it might just be aging.

It could be some part of the exhaust making light contact with the body when the car is cold and then with the expansion of the exhaust that it goes away when warm.

Have you had the car serviced regularly and recently enough?

The levels are all perfect. Ya they usually drop alright. Its not a loud noise really but it was just new and wasnt there before

oh if they drop then it couldnt be anything serious at all.

most cars when the weather is cold tend to do this so it wouldnt really be anything to worry about.

like that guy said after me could very well be that too

wouldnt hurt to drop it into a garage for some advice.

    best of luck :)

can you be more specific about the noise, if its a high frequency tapping noise coming from the top of the engine, it could be the hydraulic tappets. I'm not sure if they give problems on these or not.

Has the oil & filter been changed recently. If it is the hydraulic tappets changing the oil might help, but it would be best to get the oil pressure tested to make sure there isn't another problem.
