I want to become a musician, but i'm going to college because it could be a good place to meet guys to jam with, and the whole musician thing might'nt work out! a degree in music probably won't help me will it? I have heard it's pointless, but i dont know what you study, enlighten me?

I don't see how doing a music degree is pointless :/ Unless you're already a genius and understand the ins and outs of harmony, composition etc..

The degree is a whole lot more then just jamming too, granted there are ensembles but you also have essays and assignments.

Making a career out of being a professional musician isn't always viable (unless you're very very lucky), a degree in music can give you a lot of options, teaching, lecturing, music therapy, sound engineering, composition etc..

I'd give it serious thought if all you want to do is jam because that's only one aspect of the course.
