Would you say the same to someone who wears an Ulster or Munster jersey to an Irish rugby international?

No because Celtic aren't Irish. I would have no problem with someone wearing a Bohs,Rovers,Cork or Derry jersey because they are Irish. Munster and Ulster are Irish so I would have no problem seeing them at rugby games.

It's the right colours, who cares. Maybe it is the only green thing they have.

    Agreed.
    Dont do it.
Celtic are not Irish. Wear a Shamrock Rovers jersey instead. Does exactly the same job.

I think you will find they are culturally Irish, by virtue of the fact they were founded by an Irishman and to help out impoverished Irish immigrants in and around Glasgow. A very high percentage of their fans are second or third generation Irish. Much as we like to claim JFK as been partly Irish.

You cannot imply that Celtic F.C. are in no way Irish just because they are based in Scotland (with Irish investment) and so in some way unworthy of support, and then on the other hand claim Aiden McGeady is Irish because he plays for the Republic of Ireland and is, even though he was born and bred in Glasgow. There are cultural links that go beyond all that. Jordan Grand Prix were based at Silverstone, yet people still regarded them as an Irish team. They may have been owned by an Irishman, with a northern designer and driver, but most of their staff were British. Although Amhran na bhFiann was played if they won a race.

I think the prejudices certain people have (especially in Dublin) towards Celtic, is that because a few skangers go around in their jerseys they tarnish the club, much like the IRA did to our national flag. And these people are not representative of either.

Anyway live and let live. If Celtic jerseys bother you that much, it is your problem. Little things affect little minds. Lots of people in Ireland are west brits and little americans and do not know it. Many Cork GAA fans bring all sorts of flags to matches as they have the same colours of their county team. Big deal.

And that they play in the SPL so why do these retards not support a real Irish team?

Gotta love the posters you see around town when there is an old firm game advertising big screen coverage followed by ballads from the Beardy Bigots. Not saying all their supporters are, but quite a few aren't very evolved and the rest of Ireland has tried to move on.
An Irishman was very involved in the creation of the Argentine navy. Why not try wearing their uniform instead :D

Celtic and Rangers are synonymous with Protestant/Catholic sectarianism.
A Celtic jersey is a symbol of sectarianism imo.
The Irish flag is a symbol of peace between Protestants and Catholics.
So a Celtic jersey is against what this country stands for.
Wholly inappropriate to wear to soccer internationals.

Hundreds of Protestants have played for Celtic down the years. In their centenary year more Protestants were on the team than Catholics. It was Rangers who had the secterian policy. Typical of someone who happens to try's to think that somehow they are enlightened and bascially talks misinformed nonsense.

I wouldn't be too bothered what people wear to a game although it would be preferably green and preferably not a football jersey with no connection to Ireland. Celtic, I guess fits both categories as they are green and are undoubtedly affiliated with ireland. However I don't like to see Celtic jerseys because to me they represent a sectarian, backward Ireland, an Ireland based on religious separation.

I usually see the Celtic jersey worn on a bunch of armchair republicans, leaning against a wall outside some pub. A bit like Rangers scum do I suppose.
