hello all, I got roped into dropping a few RG6 cables into a friends bedrooms in his house.

Before I went at it they were getting RTE1,RTE2,TV3,TG4,BBC1,BBC2,ITV,C4

Now all I did was add a plug in booster and three extra cables to the system.....

Now the BBC,ITV and C4 channels have gone  I can just about see them

I cant for the life of me think what I have done wrong, I thought they were coming off the UHF, the same as TV3 and TG4 but those two channels are still coming through as clear as day.

Any ideas as to how I have messed this up?

what kind of booster do you have? Try connecting it up without a booster (It may well already be amplified at mast head)

When you say a "plug in booster" what exactly do you mean ? Was there a power supply at the TV end feeding a mast head amp ?

Cheers guys, I did put the system back to how it was before my tampering and the BBC's were still gone. I will try it again tomorrow just to double check as I did not investigate to far.

As for it already being amped, there is an amp beside the main original TV, do I now need to get rid of this? I must also point out that I cant get TV3 and TG4 on the TV set with the amp. The three new connections are fine with TV3 and TG4.

I know there will be a simple fix for this and I wont make the same mistake again, give me a sat dish or cat5 and I can do it with my eyes closed, analogue TV is a different beast!

By plug in booster I mean, a unit that plugs directly into a socket, has one input and 4 outputs, it is rated at 5w. Hope that helps......

Hummm, when you say an amp beside the original TV, do you mean a "power supply" ? It'll have "in and out" on it or maybe "Amp and TV". (It would be supplying power to a masthead amp.) If you've installed a distribution system, unless it has a through power supply to feed the mast head, you'll still need the power supply to power the mast head, and then feed the output of it, which would have gone to the TV, to the distribution amp.

Yes the amp beside the Tv was pretty much as you describe, it had an enclosed in and out and was powered from the wall and had a green light when powered.

I get what you are saying now about the powering the mast head, I need to put the amp which is currently beside the TV, in the chain before the plugged in distribution system. Would the amp two amps be a problem?

Can you add some light to how I was still getting TV3 and TG4 if they were coming from the UHF with no power? Or is it just for the BBC's that I need power?

Thanks for your help, it has save me some serious head banging. I will report back tomorrow and let you know how it went.

If you're using a distribution system with no through power, yes, that's the way you need to do it, the power supply is probably only feeding a masthead on the UK channels, TV3 and TG4 probably don't need one.
