Alright guys. Have an imac which i bought about a year ago.
Had to reinstall my original discs last week and have lost all my stuff. Have learned to live with loosing everything but now i cant even load snow leopard back on. It says i have no space on the hardrive. Am guessing it still has my original stuff still stored on it. Is there anyway i can get my data back and if not how do i free up the space like i had it before,,Had a good few songs which we made on logic pro which i would love to retrieve,, Cheers in advance

I've never owned a mac so I prob cant help but can you tll us
how many gigs of hard drive space did you have in total when you bought it?

what is the total now? (used and un-used)

what happens when you try to boot without your cd's in the drive?

Intereting. Before the mac went belly-up, were you running short on disk space?

Why did you have to use your original disks in the first place, out of interest?

Do a spotlight search to make sure your data isn't lurking there somewhere.

Download Disk Inventory X and use it to see where all your space is going.

Did you always keep your "stuff" in the right place (i.e. user space - Desktop, Documents, Music, Downloads, Movies etc etc)? Check Macintosh HD -> Users and see if there are any unexpected things there (like a Deleted Users directory).

Open Disk Utility (Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility) and check whether you haven't divided your disk into more than one partition (describe what you see in the left-hand pane).

    Hi

I had s similiar problem after doing an erase free space. I had 200 gigs free before I started and after it the hard drive was full. Made no sense called apple and they tried a few things over the phone which didn't work, then the question which I expected came.. Was I using time machine???

I was.. So they talked me through a re-install and it's been perfect for the last year?

    Have you used time machine??

If not I suggest back up your mac now and do a reinstall, whe
that's finished open the hard drive on your desktop and see if your missing files are there... I would be surprised if there not. Then just drag and drop to where they should be.

    Hope this helps
