I read this here and couldn't get my head around it, what on earth would be in it for Wladimir? What would he get out of it?

I think it was just for a while when Wladimir was training to fight Ibragimov and Thompson, both southpaws like Andy.

    Imagine the sparring....
Which one walks around the ring with his arms down and which one stick out his lead hand ?

    I always get mixed up...

but surely there'd be some heavyweight and light heavyweight southpaws who he could spar with who would be more suitable and provide more of a test

I'm sure there was. He probably just sparred with Andy at the start of a training camp just to get back in the rhythm of fighting a southpaw. It was convenient for them as they used to train in the same gym.

What was more competitive was when Andy sparred with Jermaine Taylor, back when Taylor was in the same stable as Andy Lee.
