DVD drives will either be SATA or IDE,not usually included with the drives.Same goes for hard drives.

Depends on the monitor to be honest, some will package cables and some wont.

Your friends motherboard should have come with more than enough IDE and SATA cables for the drives.

The monitor should come with a cable but depending on how new it is, it will be either VGA or DVI tho it should also come with a converter as with the graphics card.

I just got a Gigabyte motherboard and it came with 4x SATA cables and (I think) one IDE cable. I also got a SATA DVD drive and that came with no cables.
