I'm not much use either, but heres my tips:
    • I find I do a lot better in games like domination, where the focus is less on killing loads of people - you can earn tons of points by simply securing objectives.
    • As for killing people, practice loads. You'll get better in time.
    • Pick a weapon with low recoil and high damage (like the SCAR) and use it until you get better.
    • Don't forget the knife if you get up close and personal - one hit kill, and will get you out of lots of tricky situations.
    • Don't forget to vary your stance also - crouching can sometimes save you from a potential headshot, and also increases your accuracy. Same for going prone - just don't turn into one of those muppets that drops to the floor everytime they face off with someone...

I'm not that great myself but a few good tips:
    • Don't stay in one place for too long,
    • When you come face to face with someone at close range, strafe to the side while turning the opposite direction so as to keep the crosshairs on them,
    • I found that going prone behind something (low wall, car etc) for a second or two can give you vital time to reload, and it means that the enemy has to retrain his sights on you when you get back up (make sure when you get back up your not in exactly the same place and don't stay long enough for him to throw a grenade),
    • At long range only shoot quick bursts, your shots will be more accurate.
    Hope these help.

Im by no means a fantastic player. But Heres my tips anyway:

-Never stop moving!!a moving target is harder to hit!

-Keep checking your radar!when i first started playing COD games i didnt really use it much, but its essential for finding enemys!

-if you run into an enemy at close range just shot from the hip!dont bother going into "aim" mode. Those few milliseconds can mean life or death.

-reload as often as you can but only when the coast is clear!but if your using a heavey machine gun it can take nearly 4secs to reload so make sure your in a safe place.

-Dont become a a camper (someone who sits in the same place and waits for someone to come along) you might get a few kills at the start but people will just figure you out and keep killing you! not the mention is a P#ssys way of playing and you wont improve your game.

-Dont forget to Use your flash bang and stun grenades. great if your going up and down a stair case or entering a room. and they dont show u up on the radar when you use them.

always keep an eye for gunfights not involving you. There are always 2 involved so even if one of them dies, the winner may be weak and easy pickings.

I am also horrific so you are not the only one

Cod is a game with a really steep learning curve, just because its so fast and kills are so quick.

Knowing the maps is the single most helpful thing i think, and to do that you just need to play em a lot. I don't know them on mw2 really yet so not playing too well.

Other then that keep an eye on the radar, keep moving but be cautious going around corners. I think submachine guns are easiest to start with. Playing domination is also good advice, although I only played free-for-alls until I got better for some reason.

Mainly just play, with friends if you can, much more fun that way! What console you play on?

Get to know your custom classes and use them to suit your playstyle and mood. They are the best way to play effectively.

Stick with one, max 2 class and don't switch for a good while. I use gear centered around a riot shield, mostly killing people by bashing into them. Two bashes and they are dead.. Take's alot of practice to not get killed, and you have to be patient, and it's not a camping class, you have to move near constantly.

But yeah, stick with one or two classes. Find out what your best at.

Everyone's always in such a rush to go everywhere in this. A useful tip I realised for when you're getting nailed by everyone is stop sprinting everywhere. That way you're way more ready for when someone comes pelting around a corner.

    Chill

One I found tonight is to give 3rd person cage match a try, It will give you a good idea of how much cover you use and you only have one opponent to worry about as you get a feel for movement and cover. Though it wont help as much as getting use to the aiming down the sight.

I've been playing on and off for the last few days but have yet to encounter anyone using the riot shield. I'd advise not running around like a headless chicken, looking for the high ground and avoiding running through the killzones in each map e.g. the open space between the two high rise buildings on the crashed heli map.
