He just wound up on it!

Hopefully he'll do more of the same against Loughrea on Sunday.

Quality goal, he's only a small fella but the way he threw Maloney off him was class.

Big match for Portumna tomorrow against Loughrea. Hayes is a under-rated Galway legend.

I always wonder why he hasn't made a greater impression on the inter-county scene thus far. First time I saw him play was a league game against us in 2004 and he ran rings around our defence for 70 minutes. He was arguably better than Joe Canning for the majority of Portumna's games last year too.

Good goal, but I don't think you could beat DJ's point in 2002

He was incredible today, 3-3/3-4 or something like that from play. The first and second goals were simply out of the top drawer.

Am I the only one who thinks that point is seriously overrated? It was a lovely score and all but I've definitely seen better.

His consistent standard of performance for Galway marks him well below legendary status.

To be fair the consistent performance of the Galway hurling team indicates that, they play to far less than the sum o their parts and when that happens one or two players can be dragged down with them.

Damien Hayes has validly acquired legendary status in his home club, and rightly so. He's been immense at club level over the past 7 or more years. He has also been one of Galways better performers in the Championship over the last few years. He is amongst the top corner forwards in the country.

Again, I'd like to point out his contribution today was incredible. Look at any of the goals he scored, in particular the second one, a 5 star display.
