Hard drive in my dell has started making funny noises lately so have been on the lookout for a replacement. saw this 1.5TB today http://www.eason.ie/look/5390800100440/Dane-Elec-1-5TB-Desktop-External-Hard-Drive
assuming its 2 750GB drives, was planning on sticking one into my C521 and using the other in the enclosure for backup (with a view to using it in a home nas setup down the line when i pick up a cheap server pc)
Has anyone experience with these drives and are they pretty reliable. Open to other options also but the price seems very good for B&M shop

I never heard anything about those drives, good or bad.
I have one of these ordered and think its quite a good deal.

awkward way of going about it.

assuming the Dell isn't too old and takes SATA:
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=496258 €67.

    and then for an external:

works out slightly cheaper i think when you factor in the cost of the enclosure.

thanks to you both, think what ill do is order the 1tb drive from komplett, obv that drive should be better than what may be in the dane elec. stick the existing drive into an enclosure i already have and use that for backing up essential stuff like photos etc until it packs in. cant even imagine filling the 1tb but no doubt it wont take too long.

one more question, would the Samsung drive be suitable for use in a C521 slim case, in terms of air flow and temp? (as far as i know the connections are indeed sata)

The samsung should be fine in just about any case that has spaces for 3.5inch internal drives and available sata connections on the motherboard. As for filling up the 1TB its surprising how quickly you can fill space.

...by the way, if your old drive is starting to make funny noises, try not to run it too much before you get to back-up your stuff on it.
The more often you run it, the quicker it will one day not respond at all for you.

Good luck with your new drive.
