Chrome electrical fittings - new build issue?

    I've been told that there's an issue with fitting chrome switches and sockets in a newly plastered house due to their propensity to react to the wet surface.

    They come with a plastic backing, is this enough to shield them?

    I put on the brass colour in 1995 with the plastic backs, still has the colour today.
