Temporarily signing off JSB?

Hey all, hopefully managed to secure some short-term work for Christmas (2-3 weeks max, unsure of hours as yet). Is it possible to temporarily sign-off JSB (that is I know I will be out of a job after the 2-3 weeks) and then sign back on again as I go back to looking for work once again when short-term work finished. While obviously I very much want to work and will, I'd love to know if this were possible. Also in my mind is the budget as I am under 25 and the rumour being that it will be halved for anyone under 25 in the upcoming budget. My worry is that I will be put back to the end of the queue again so to speak and treated like a new application, where as if I stayed in the system now I would likely not experience such a cut (or that's the theory/rumour anyway).

    Thoughts/opinions/advice welcome!

If you get temporary work your claim is held open for about 12 months, or in other words is regarded as being *live*

Nope, went in and asked two different people, told it would be closed and I would have to re-register as new claimant despite me saying it was max 2-3 weeks.

    Temporary work
If you are getting Jobseeker's Benefit and offered temporary work for at least 4 days each week your Jobseeker's payment will stop. If you are unemployed for a second time within 26 weeks your application for Jobseeker's Benefit is not treated as a new claim.

Thanks for that. I have in fact since then been offered one day a week in an academic capacity which I am going to do regardless of the impact on JSB as it will be worth much more on my CV. Since I am working less than 4 days a week, I assume my JSB will be paid as normal, minus the amount I am earning on that one day? Any help appreciated? I'll pop in anyway to explain to SW as soon as I have definate hours.

I haven't the full details but you can work up to 3 days and get a reduced payment for those days and full JSB for the others. Its the x and o's system if you've heard of that. You should be slightly better off financially working 1-3 days.

    Good Luck.
