Social Welfare question

Not sure if this is the right forum but anyway, I own a house, which i have rented out as i live with my partner.

I was put on part time hours a few months ago. When i researched claiming social welfare for the days i was not working i discovered that i wouldnt get anything if i declared that i was living with my partner, so i used my own hour address on the claim form. Maybe not legally right, but i couldnt afford not to.

Now one of my tenants had lost their job and needs to claim dole. My question is, if she puts down the address of my property on her application form for social welfare, will that flag with the dole office that someone else from that address is claiming social welfare? Or will it show up that i am her landlord ( i dont even make enough in rent to pay the mortgage)

I have to "come clean" to the dole office next March anyway, as i will be getting married and hopefully my work hours will be back up to full time at that stage, but at the moment i really need the dole money to survive.

Please dont lecture me on this, i know that what i am doing is illegal.

That is the state benefit forum you would get a more knowledgeable response there.

So, you'd like us all the contratulate you on ripping off all us taxpayers is it?
    Or condome your illegal actions?

My advice is come clean ASAP with the social and pay back what you owe them because its just a matter of time till they rumble you - and then you'll face a prosecution.

OP may well be in receipt of Jobseeker's benefit, in which case means doesn't enter into it.

Without the full info, we don't know.

Best advice is to let SW know asap

It is job seekers benefit, and i am entitled to it in that my hours of work have been cut down to a three day week.

I was told though that my partners means would be taken into account if we were living together, which seems totally unfair to me as we always both paid our own way and he is struggling with his own wage cuts and stuff. I never have lived off him, and i dont think that it is fair of the department of social welfare to force me to do so.

The only lie i told was in saying that i was living in my own house rather than renting it. I dont make any money from renting it, i still hve to pay the shortfall of the mortage.

If it's benefit, your partner's income/earnings has no effect on your claim.

You should advise DSFA of your correct address. Should an official call to your given address and establish that you don't live there, your benefit may well be suspended.

Incidentally, for means test purposes, it's not the rental income derived from any property, it's the capital value less any outstanding mortgage so, for properties in negative equity, it doesn't affect your means either.
