Vehicle Tracking

    Ladies & Gentlemen,

    I'm inquiring about vehicle tracking, specifically single vehicle tracking if the vehicle is stolen. Google search has thrown up loads of UK/US sites, or Irish companies with very little info. (I've got some phone numbers, so I'll be phoning Monday Morning)

    Basically, I'm wondering if anybody here has them fitted, who fitted them and the reliability of the systems. Also, can it be easily fitted, or must the GPS receiver be in sight of the sky (ie, can the whole thing be hidden under dashboards, near fuel tanks etc).

    Any pointers or info appreciated. If you don't want to public admit having them fitted, PM me the details

    I'll be planning to fit it into an older car (pre 1980) but I thought I'd post here rather in Classics for more exposure. Mods feel free to move if inappropriate.

    Thanks

    I'v experience with the sniper self track unit, it is a sim card operated unit, it is subscription free which i think is what you are looking for, I wont link you to the product as im not sure on forum rules regards advertising.

    the selftrack txts co-ordinates of your car to you, can be worked in conjunction with an alarm, has a back up battery and engine can be immobilised via txt message if your alerted of car moving, you can also listen into the car by ringing the sim in the unit.

    I'm pretty sure you can post it! You're advertising it to someone who has asked.. plus I'm interested.

    I'd want one that you can go online and see it moving along a map ...

    I know people who have had them fitted, high end cars and they gave problems with draining battery. Don't know what brand of tracker they were, but it was enough to turn me off them

    There is some AFAIK that have independent battery supplys and only use the cars batt when that has drained.

    Lots of our customers have had them fitted. Only yesterday they were fitted to 7 VW Caddies (they'll be carrying lots of valuables). Tidy job, its all behind the dash, so none of it is visable.

    I dont know how well they work because its the customer who has the viewing portal, but its the same company that does the Cash vans so they must be decent.

    the one i sell only txt you co-ordinates which you can type into google maps etc, it is subscription free so there is no live tracking like you are after, for those systems there is an annual subscription fee of about £120 sterling i think on top of buying the unit.

    Here is a link to the selftrack unit;

    These are a disaster from a mobile network point of view when the customer cancels the service & does not remove the SIM card. When thye are active it is not an issue.

    Got a similar one fitted to the car and bike.. Only cost me €350, that was including fitting and hooking up to the alarm etc.

    I dont know what tracking systems are best but believe me they are a godsend to find stolen cars and I recommend them wholeheartedly. Anyone who has a high-end car should definitely get one fitted.
