Do you know a safe online payment method?

    Hi everyone!
I've been always shopping using my credit card but my anti-virus found a bunch of Trojan horses in my computer. I removed them all but I am a little bit afraid to use my credit card details for online payments now. What if a virus is still there and someone can steal my money? I'm not sure if the bank returns it in this case.
Do you know a safe online payment method? Some prepaid cards, maybe? Something that won't turn into a great disaster if it's stolen.

Get either a card that offers random online cards (American Express Blue Chip does as example as I recall) or use a top up card (i.e. you have a card with no money except what you transfer to that account).

Best bet though is to be vigilant on your bank statement.

  • You cant really go wrong with a 3v card. Just log on to www.3v.ie I use this for all my online purchases.

Just continue using your card. Although credit card fraud is a concern, it's not like it happens to everyone, every day.

Don't use your card on sites you don't know or don't trust. If there's any doubt, don't continue. Keep your virus scanner and firewall up to date, and have a good anti-spyware option too. Never respond to emails asking for card or personal details.

Credit card use is protected against fraud. Pre-pay cards are not. You are far better off using a real credit card than a pre-pay one.

    Thank you all!
Amaris Sparse Hobo, thanks for the link, 3v looks good. At least, I have good impression about it.
I'm not shopping at strange online-shops and avoid suspicious websites. No idea how this happened. It's just... I'm playing some online-games (Travian), and they offer different payment options, which includes prepaid card. But I have no experience with them, it's something new to me and I don't trust it. Although, Travian is a well known game, they wouldn't cheat. Would they?

    hello Bunny Ears,

Liking the name by the way, i like to use something called Paysafecard, you can buy these from a local shop at a paypoint dealer, when you buy this you'll get a little voucher with a 16 digit PIN code all you do is enter that in your online shop and BINGO!!! you can use for all sorts as well from Amazon to your online computer games cos i play Dragon Fable and these vouchers help me look after my money and play online!!!! hope this helps...

    Hello My_Little_Pony,
thank you very much. I've seen this name (paysafecard, I mean, not your nickname) on the Travian homepage, it is the prepaidcard I was talking about. So it's not fake? It's really working. Cool. And I can use it for Amazon, that's great.
I didn't understand, where can I get a paysafecard? What is a PayPoint? Is it a special shop?

@My_Little_Pony:- What happens to left over credit is it like 3v, pay to transfer?
How do you pay at amazon? Is it a visa like 3v or is there a dropdown for paysafe?

Hummmm... I've been looking for any information about the paysafecard + amazon and found just nothing. Are you sure amazon accepts paysafecard vouchers? I'd like to try it but I'm totally confused.

@KC Jones: i have used it on Amazon but would have to try it again before i could give you a step by step guide on how to use it but there is a website for paysafecard which is www.paysafecard.com, also any credit you don't use will be available anywhere else you wish to use it!!!

@bunny_ears: use the website above it will let you know where you can use it and will also give you tips on your nearest dealer, hope this helps, it says on the website can use with Amazon!!!!

If I get it right, paysafecard and paysafecard voucher are different products. The official website says:

Order your vouchers for Amazon.co.uk and Nintendo Wii here and pay conveniently with paysafecard. Then simply redeem your vouchers in the selected online shop.

Not sure that I understand it correctly but I think that a paysafecard you buy at the PayPoint is not the one you're using for Amazon and stuff... Unfortunately, there is no further information on the website.

i am going to buy a voucher over the weekend so will check this out for you, i am about 99% sure i have used this on Amazon but couldn't tell you how it works until i try this out, will post with updates!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22 Bunny_Ears

My_Little_Pony. it would be very nice of you. The whole paysafecard company looks pretty impressive, I don't think they cheat the users (hope so). At least, the other things they offer work and people are happy with it. There is something written about using this voucher for Amazon shopping but it's in German (yaaaaay!). No idea...

yeah i checked this out yesterday and it is only on the Amazon.de but i think shortly it will be coming to the uk because on the site for UK its got info on Amazon and when this does come into play it will be amazing!!!

That's a pity. I'd love using this way of payment for the Christmas shopping this year. German Amazon won't help here, I guess.
It's strange, actually. They have this Amazon UK logo on their homepage for more than a week, but nothing happens - no updates, nothing.

are you sure the german vouchers won't work for amazon uk? they are one company after all ... maybe you could see into that or write an email to paysafecard simply asking ...

kickarykee, well, I wouldn't trust any other website except Amazon.co.uk itself, which says:
    You can pay by:
    • Credit card: We accept Visa, Delta, Visa Electron, MasterCard, Eurocard, American Express
    • Debit card: We accept UK-based Maestro, Solo and Visa cards
    • Amazon.co.uk Gift Certificates
    We do not accept:

    • cheques or postal orders
    • Eurocheques
    • cash in any currency
    • international debit cards
    • book tokens
    • purchase orders
I don't see any paysafecards here. Typing 'paysafecard' on the search engine didn't bring any results. Check yourself, maybe you'll find it. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_ln_ord_povat/?nodeId=492874

A friend contacted them. I have seen the email where they said they do not take this. Also on the amazon page there is a drop down menu of what they do take and this is not mentioned. Is it books you want? The book depository is better value free delivery

Thanks a lot, KC JONES. I've got the books I needed for my studies from the library till the story with the prepaid cards was cleared. And I'm getting something else as Christmas presents for my family and friends. But books are always welcome at my place, so I'm bookmarking the book depository.

you're welcome. Also note book depository has a .co.uk and a .com site. Check both sites as books are sometimes cheaper on .com and others cheaper on .co.uk

I think you got something wrong there, though - I know you can't pay with PSCs on Amazon UK but the question was whether you can use the Amazon vouchers you bought with a psc on their website in the UK shop cause they are regular Amazon vouchers - only issued in German. So I guess the question would be whether you can use German Amazon vouchers for Amazon UK

    Hey again!

Just wanted to let you know that I haven't found anything particular, yet, but since I got a psc as a belated Xmas present today that reminded me about wanting to find out (yeah, I had forgotten, hihi) I wrote to Amazon today asking whether it's possible to use .de vouchers on .co.uk ...

    To be continued :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 207 ✭✭kickarykee

Okayyy guys ... finally I got a reply and unfortunately it's not possible to use vouchers from one domain for the other - so in the end it's not possible.

A pity, but can't be helped - at least now we know :)

Hope you all had a great New Year!! :D
