I'm not working right now but I have a house that is rented and am just living with some relatives, am I still entitled to claim jobseekers allowance plus Disability benefit which I may also be entitled to?

    Does anyone know?

you are either entitled to jobseeker's allowance OR disability allowance, not both.

Both are means tested, so the income from renting your house & the capital of the house will be taken into account.

I'd get about 1240 a month, so would you say no? Disability benefit is only 100 a week or so, isn't it?

it's unlikely you'd qualify for either of the means tested payments so.

your local citizens information office would be able to answer for sure though.

    I agree with Xiney.

An income of €1240 monthly (~ €286 weekly), with no rent to pay probably doesn't entitle you to anything off the state - assuming you are a single person with no children.

Well, I would be paying rent at my relatives now, does this make a difference?

Sorry, when you said "am just living with some relatives" I assumed that you weren't paying rent.

Bear in mind that the personal rate for a single person is €204.30 per week. Your income is €286 per week. That's why I don't think you qualify for anything.

If I was to claim that I was paying €100 rent a week, would that make a difference?

Still don't see it working out for you. You have a regular income that is greater than social welfare, by that logic, i reckon they'll trn you down.

How dangerous would it be to say that I am still living at the same address, if I had utility bills and everything, would they check?

I certainly hope so! I've signed on when I was in desperate need (Jan and some of Feb last year).

As it's a limited resource I'd prefer if you didn't take advantage of it if you don't need to. It's intended for people who need it.

Are you asking people for advice on how to defraud the benefits system aka the taxpayer aka the very people you are asking for advice?

Rebelgirl, with your current weekly income, you are doing better than most at the moment.

You really don't need to get greedy. I recommend going down to Welfare and talking to them, but be honest.

You can lie to them and you'll most likely get away with it. But for the few people that do get caught, my god, welfare will never forget, and i assure you, they'll make life very difficult for you when you do need them.

it wouldn't be too hard to catch you either, with you declaring that you've rented house out and your earnings from it. If you don't mention this and your tenant declares for rent relief you're nabbed

Are your relatives registered with the local authority as landlords? Are you registered as a landlord, given that your house is being rented out?

Small piece of advice, do not use this forum to ask for ways to defraud the social welfare system.

The amount of rent you pay will have no bearing on meanstest.
