Single parents tax credit

    OK, bit of a question.

I had been claiming the single parents tax credit up to Jan of this year, but got married in very late December 08, so come Jan I called the RC to cancel it. Now in the last week or so the marriage went tit's up for various reasons and we've split we may get back together but for the moment technically I a seperated.

Trying to sort everything and get my feet on back on the ground I went online and put back on the tax credit.
I know I'm only just seperated and as I said theres a chance we may get back together, but I assume in the mean time I am entitled to claim this? Money is tight so the little extra would help a lot hence the speed at which I claimed it.

Also scabby I know, but whats the chances of it getting backdated to the start of the year?

    Are you divorced?

No but sperated. Surely though since it takes four years to get a divorce there should be something in place.

I'm asking because I don't want to screw the system, but if I can get it then I'm going to claim it.

I think you qualify for the tax credit strait away, but you have to wait 3 months before you qualify for things like one parent family payment (if your income is below the threshold)

Cool thanks, I'm gonna go with it and if they come back at a later stage I'll tell them honeslty I thought I was entitled to it.

Curious how do I prove it if they ask, I'm staying down in my folks at the moment but my post is all going to the other house, we have booked a mediater for Janruary so I imagine that in itself would stand as proof.
