MW2 makes $310m on first day of release

In its first 24 hours of release COD:MW2 has made over $310 million, that blows away Halo 3's previous record of 170million, and is officially the most succesful entertainment product launch in history, and yet some people will still try to tell you games are a niche market for pasty skinned virgins and kids...

"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" has made $310M in North America and the UK alone, making it the most successful launch for any entertainment product in history, and by a huge margin at that. For a point of reference, previous 24 hour records were held by SPIDER-MAN 3, the last "Harry Potter" book, and most notably "Halo 3," which boasted the former best one-day sales total of $170M, a number which COD has since dropped a tactical nuke on.

Not even GTA and Halo, surely videogamings biggest franchises could come close to that, this thing is a MONSTER

Anyone else have a sneaking suspicion that we'll be seeing movies in a few years called Modern Warfare?

Lets face it. The single player is only round 5/6 hours each. Take out a lot of the running round and shooting bits, could make pretty good action movies. Changes to the story needed obviously, and no FPS bits like in the Doom movie, but the general story is pretty good I reckon. Hell, I know the story, I'd still go see that film.

I'd say once news of these sales get out, it'll be done.

That is some amount of money over 24 hours, did they have any figures on the amount of units sold? As the record is financial based & there is a big difference in the price of a book/DVD compared to a video game.
