Sound gone

    Hi all.

    I have a Sony Vaio laptop with Windows Vista, only 1 year old.

    I turned it on this morning ant the sound appears to be broken. The little speaker icon at the bottom of the screen shows that it is on mute, well it has a little red circle with a white cross.

    When i put the arrow/pointer over it to turn up the volume it flashes up in a balloon "No audio output device is installed". Now i never had this before and i didnt delete anything to do with sound. I tried going through the control panel but i get the same message.

    Do any of you know what might be causing this?

    Try do a System Sestore, You will find it in the Accessories folder under the All Program's List

    Before doing a system restore, i would suggest looking in Device Manager for anything that is broken there. You can download new drivers and repair from there.

    this happens to me occasionally with my laptop but the sound icon dissappears altogether. I just restart the laptop and it sorts itself out.
