I had a good experience with NetNation a few years ago and was just looking to see what jobs they had at the moment but their website appears to be gone and they've no presence on irishjobs.ie ....have they gone bust?

That doesn't necessarily mean the company is still trading, though.

From what I know he spends a good bit of time training in Muay Thai in Thailand, so he might be on a bit of a break at the moment.

My email to Gerry bounced today, so I checked on CRO.ie and unfortunately the entry for Net Nation reads...

    Dissolved

    Effective date: 25/09/2009

It's a real pity, Gerry was one of very few honest and decent recruitment people out there :-/

That's a shame. I dealt with him quite a bit (he was a customer of mine) and he seemed like a decent, honest guy.

I do know though that he was beginning to take his martial arts very seriously (he was training full-time in Thailand for most of the year) so maybe he is now focussing on that.

    Hi ya Guys!
Gerry here waving from tropical beach!

Thank you all for thinking of me!

To answer question, past 2 years or so, Net Nation has been
just me and outsourced back office help of all the tasks.

Net Nation did not go bust.

Since Dec 2005 I been working from Thailand (most of the time) OffShore,
so companies office accounts would show v little, as legally per all that Company Law boring stuff, off shore a individual is not liable for any person tax. Something like that. Costs about 3000 Euro to keep an Irish Ltd company in proper order, and I had a very good very strict accountant. So I was forking out 3k or 4k a year for the legal entity Ltd Co Net Nation Recruitment Ltd to keep it good but had no real use for it. So to save 4K a year as I have Thai Company Set up too, I closed down the ltd company of Net Nation, to be Gerry The Happy Recruiter Net Nation.

Wonderful! THEN.... RECESSION REALLY HAMMERS Poor Olde Eire.

Now I kept Net Nation in the 2001 dot bomb, 9/11. SARS recession going, and got through that... How I do not know! God Grace.

But I tell you, apres 2001 - 2003 slowdown, I said... never again am I goiing to run a recruitment company or work as a recruiter through a recession.

There is no or very very little need for Recruitment Agencies in Recessions, and you end up driving poor IT Managers Insane, even if your one of the 'honest try best to be good ethical agency".

You end up, frustrating poor candidates, who to death, and you end up driving yourself nuts, as 40 agencies might be scrapping to get a candidate into the 1 IT job role, since they all have the spec, while the company is advertising direct too!

So when I really seen in autum 2008 Dublin IT Sector taking a nose dive, the job specs dried up over night. For "fun" since i am wizened and wizened to the recruitment game and luckily will not lead myself on, in late 08 for a bit of craic, I dropped the fee down to 1%.... Ha ha!

Most of the companies I would contact know of me years, so they know I would have been genuine with the 1% and honoured it.. but not even an
F OFF never mind a spec in. I knew for sure things were as bad as the abnormally OTT doomful Independent.ie grims newspaper said things were re jobs and tight times.

So I quietly for the mid term "hung up me hat" re Net Nation in early 2009.
I am not a neg head, and the big agencies with the big contracts like CPL still get jobs in, but for the small recruitment agency reality is.. it is not worth it during a recession.

Yeah the netnation.ie email box is full, I have to sort that out, (maybe xmas) see I had a baby Michael Collins Nolan, and took time out for that.
And since 99,999 out of 100,000 emails I get these days to Netnation.ie is
spam for manhood enhancing medications etc and that is with 2 spam traps!

I quietly parked net nation for now.

I think the traditional model of recruiting agency is going to change, (again the big guys CPL etc, are in a different league) but for the small agencies a good clean out of the unethical BS'ers is happening.

I speculate the recruitment agency of the future (aside from specialized small head hunters who work tigh niches and make millions), the trad recruitment agency model I think will die off. (Thankfully)
and the new model will be a low cost recruitment service, sort of like
a cross between a low or fixed fee agency with lite service (clients set up own interviews with CVS sent) and a Job Board that offers higher levels of service, a job board with a lite recruitment personal human touch.

See me, who can just about operate a mobile phone can, whack up a Job Board on Wordpress or a few buck you got open source jobberbase which is perfect for a niche job board. Meaning companies can set up job boards for their own needs. Will all job board be successful.... no 80% - 90% will no zero to minimal... but my point is, the traditional Reruitment Agency role and usefulliness is getting squeezed and elbowed out of the picture more and more.

Also the Sales Commission model behind agencies is what causes all the unethical behaviours. If recruiters were paid in a way, not dependent on sales targets then 80% of the lying and stupid pressure sales tricks would not happen.

Those UK but Dublin branches agencies are the worst. I started out in one of them, and I left to set up... then Fasttack with Sean which was v successful as we could not stomach the "money before people" and push things to the limits to get a placement.. terrible terrible, and thats is how the UK Recruiters think. Most Uk recruiters are thicker than David Beckham which seems impossible to be thicker than David Beckham but it is true.
2000 late Net Nation set up and later in 2001 we friendly went our own ways. (Sean closed fasttrack recruitment last year, he got sick of it).

Me, well... not sure how long it will be until things repair in Ireland, I would like to take one more crack at it when the economy lifts, and it will lift up in Ireland, but might be a wee bit longer than I expected.

I actually thought I had an auto responder on netnation.ie
2 years I will relaunch maybe as myself. (Got a few job board, to set up micro niche stuff in a few international places. but that is 18 months down the line. domains in place etc).

I am making a Find A job Blog... and I am going to give away alot of free info to help people find jobs. (see my post on the Name & Shame thread).

So back to original question, no not bust, I been through that 2001 recession, and I said in 2003, never again... so when I seen and hear form trusted small biz people in Ireland, that the news etc was correct, I quietly parked up net nation. Thank God, I had the foresite to do so re past experience. I took site off line too, not to be leading people on etc etc..

Hook up on facebook see some photos of the real gerry behind netnation.
I was 4 years here, base on "4 hour Work Week Book by Tim Ferris", (I was on 12 hour days) but I really wanted to pioneer something and i was sitting over here all the time since December 2005 and no one new the difference unless I told them! (I kept an office in Dublin and a Director there re legals of having an agency. Global virtual working works wonderfully! aside from recessions... if your in the staffing biz!
