got my road bike and now looking for a decent set of shoes and clipless peadles with cleats.

just got my bike and gear(pumps, helmet, lights, locks etc) so budget is tight. I have maby 150 max for both peadles and shoes ( but would be better if i could spend less!)

    Thanks.

Where ever you're going try to get them to throw in the cleats.

I wouldn't buy shoes online unless you like sending stuff back.

These and these would fit your budget.

Maybe, I have my pedals over a year so I can't remember. The thing I don't like about buying shoes online is that you never know how exactly they're going to fit. Sometimes I'm an 8, sometimes 8 and a half and on the rare occasion 9, but I do like my footware to be snug. If you're going to order online, I'd check them out first in a shop but I don't have that facility here in Kilkenny so I end up paying more than they're worth.

@fguihen- you are right, cleats do come with the pedals not the shoes.

Note if you buy from CRC posting back if necessary is cheaper than if buying from Britain.

Since I bought my Mountain Bike I've started using the MTB pedals and shoes on the road bike for my commute. You don't have to walk like a penguin in MTB shoes.
These are the SPD pedals I have - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=3759

I don't find them as easy to clip into as the SPD-SLs (road pedals) but the trade off for being able to walk properly off the bike is worth it.

I'd get shoes in a local shop, easier to get a good fit. but I'm awfully picky about shoe sizing. my shoes were €80 in cycleways, I think they had a pair for 60. But I may be misremembering (if that's a word).

EDIT: Here are the shoes I got
, they were mislabelled 80.99 in the shop but they honoured the price tag.....so thats one instance where going local is cheaper.

    misremembering (if that's a word).

    forgetting? :D

I use the mtb ones for commuting and have them on a loose setting and then LOOK style for the road bike.

    OT/

Same thing happened when I got some pannier bags off them last year. If you quote the internet price in shop they usually give it to you.

FWI: I've heard some pretty crazy stuff about their labour costs recently... €20 to change front&back tyres! Incredible.

It was a good enough word for a Nobel Laureate:
