    Folks,

Interesting discussion thread on the imra site looking for views on races for the 2010 calendar. Even if you've never ran an imra race before if you have a suggestion for a route etc feel free to join the discussion.

    Regards,

    Mick

Just to echo Slogger's comments... its good to get feedback about people's likes and dislikes, and suggestions for new ideas.

The mini trail series looked interesting last year, have that penciled in my head for next year, hope you decide to keep it.

Good stuff. With a bit of luck I'll be Race Directing a race in my own village of Annacurra, a popular race last year. It would be good to get boardsies new and old to part-take.. we could do a 'pairs' challenge similar to the Pearl Izumi run for instance

I'd love to get a few teams out for the Wicklow way relay, that was so much fun and it would be nice to have the same team bulletin boards and then get a bit of rivalry going with another boards team :D

Especially now that we have the new-and-improved earlyevening chomping at the bit;)

Best race day of the year, such cameraderie, such downhills, such fun!

Ran this this morning. Its a variation on last year's route. It introduces a 2nd tough climb (that was a descent in this year's race). And, the last descent is via the steep 1st section. So its about 1k longer with about 100m more climb overall and less traily than last year. What ye reckon?

Looks better I think. Well done.

Is that loop at the top big enough, so you wont run into (literally) half of the field still climbing up the first hill? Certainly the leading pack will have to suffer that). The climb up the hill was pretty wide though, wasn't it?

Good point but I want to make it slightly longer, a bit more testing and less traily. There is a small risk at slow moving back-markers getting passed by the lead people but the trails are wide. Some of the imra routes have quite tight passing lines e.g. Sorrell hill, but the precedent is given to the descenders.

Sounds good. Can you organize some snow again?

Whats that race thats completely uphill? I want to do that next year. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,441 ✭✭✭Slogger Jogger

Last year it was the Leinster League Powerscourt uphill race. Thats what it was called but it was in reality Djouce uphill from Crone car park. It has lots of fans so I daresay it'll be back on the 2010 calendar.

Really like the idea of the uphill race. Did my first IMRA race last week, Powerscourt Ridge, and broke my ankle 30min into race. Managed to finish, don't remember too much apart from looking forward to doing it again and being annoyed that i couldn't take in some of the beautiful scenery on the route :-)

Thanks for all the feedback... if there are any more opinions/preferences, keep 'em coming, until thursday anyway!

    Some decisions made this evening....
    • An uphill only race will be run as part of the Leinster league again.
    • The trail league is scheduled to happen after the Leinster League again, as usual
    • WW Relay will be on again, Date yet to be finalised.

    Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Was there any talk of a downhill only race?

Apparently it kicks-off just after the up-hill only race.

:mad:These races had previously been combined. This will mean hard-pressed runners will be forced to fork out €7 entry fee twice, and ne'er a goody bag or cotton tee to be seen. To say nothing about recovery times between races at the summit? The faster uphillers will be more rested than slow ascenders such as myself, clearly an unfair advantage!
The new IMRA regime are interested in one thing only, feathering their own nests on our hard earned money, where is our Minister for foreighn Affairs when you need him? There is only one word for this: bloody disgraceful :eek:

Ok, but we'd better go on strike soon, before all the teachres go on Christmas holidays.

Yes there was. There was a huge amount to sort out accross many subjects. I actually can't remember that particular discusion, but if I recall correctly we haven't put one in the calendar for this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,441 ✭✭✭Slogger Jogger

Yeah. The calendar would be twice as long to have to cater for every one of the ideas and with so many of the regular calendar items being very popular with most people its a hard call sometimes i.e. to leave in Hellfire, Howth etc :D For every race someone dislikes, thats the very race someone else loves. Thats another good time about hill running.

    Hi slogger jogger & enduro
Any ballpark on when the race calendar will be published?
I've been checking out the IMRA website and would love to have a go at some of these races in the new year
    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,503 ✭✭✭jlang

I doubt the calendar will change radically from this year's, so exact dates aside, you can see the range of races at various times of the year from the 2009 schedule. (And if your location of sunnysoutheast is accurate, look out for Mount Leinster. It's a great race.)

Probably still a couple of weeks. The shape of the schedule will mirror this year in terms of leagues etc. with notable events on bank holiday weekends like the Croagh Patrick race and Carauntoohill. You've a couple of months til the winter league if thats your thing, so get training :)
