:)Hi all.MyL96 agm awp as here

    http://www.mainirishairsoft.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=543

is nextremely feeble. Im using .25 bb and it wont even pierce a coke can point blank. It will go through one side of a cardboard box at ten feet. its range is very poor too. im thinking of upgrading the spring to get a bit more power. Can i modify the spring that's in it to this end? I've read about stretching the spring out a bit to get more from it. Im able to dismantle and reassemble the l96, just want any advice on the spring before buying an upgrade or indeed any other suggestionns on improving performance. all help apprecciated, thanks in advance

First of all clean the barrel and internal workings, then get it chrono'd most retailers will do this happily for you.
Go from there. It if is firing at a low fps get a new spring an M95 will give you 310 fps roughly. Then upgrade the hop-up.

If it is a recent purchase from an Irish retailer, it might be worth bringing back to them to have it fixed. Most, if not all, retailers would happily do this once you haven't fluted around with the internals yourself.

If you bought it second-hand, get it chrono'd. You might have some come-back if it is not shooting at the power advertised. However, you should have checked before buying. Failing that, I would suggest the same course of action as above. The only difference will be the cost.

    You'll need a vsr type spring, a M100 will give you around 300 - 310 fps.

Dunno if my experiences of the Maruzen APS Type 96 are relevant but here's a link to the thread:-

It's somewhat helpful Tactical... but not entirely....

His gun is the AGM l96... what happened when the vsr10 tripped and landed on the maruzen l96's disco stick... It has the bolt and housing of a mp001 vsr 10 clone, and the looks of an l96 with the barrel and hop.

I'm not positive on its hopup, it takes vsr10 style mags, so id say its most likely vsr 10 style hop, Best bet, is to ring the guys at Firesupport, and ask them, they st ock hopups for both the vsr and maruzen rifles, if there is an element of compatability, they will point you in the right direction.

Also it is NOT an Arctic Warfare Police *Slap* Sodding gamers.....

Thanks Tactical. Wonder if a barrelo upgrade as you describe can be done on my l96?

"I ordered a replacement precision barrel (T.Koba Hop Twist Barrel) and when this arrived I carefully fitted it"

Ive taken evrything apart, the gun was pretty unused so didnt need much cleaning. I removed any excess grease, stretched the spring a bit, lubed everything with light silicone spray. This improved fps ( will now pierce a guinness can point blank). at five metres I have lots of fun with great acccuracy and consistency...i can hit a two cent piece repeatedly. I can hit a six inch target fairly consistently at 15 metres. Not with any great power mind you. For example, at this distance it wont knock over a bean tin although it will dent it. I'm using .25 g bbs. Anything past this distance is just random with bbs veering wildly to right or doing dramatic nosedives.
The hop seems to be working ok. At least at short, 5 metres, distance a slight amount of hop up creates a lot of backspin with the bbs flying back over my head. With the hop up off the bbs just thud into the target and stay there. So I assume from this that the hop up is working. I dont have the space to test long distance for the hop up. :)

Am i right in thinking that a barrel upgrade would mprove longrange accuracy.. Or should I just try different brands and weights of bb? Can the same kind of bbarrel that you got be fitted to mine? Where can I find out what kind of upgrage barrel is suitable.

    Thanks again

Clean the barrel and hop bucking, and if possible, perhaps put a softer bucking in so less ajustment = less difference, Don;t buy a new barrel till we know what hop unit that is... or its got a chance of being the wrong one.

Thanks Firekitten. How do I find out what the hop up unit is?

From what I can see... its a vsr mech in the l96 stock... sooooooo A VSR10 hopup ought to fit, as the mags are identical too. Best head that direction for hop and barrel, but i'd get this cronoed first, it seems odd its so low powered and with odd hop.

where is the knob for moving the hop up i cant find it for the life of me

on maruzen type 96s, its a hex nut behind the mag release, and on the vsr type (includes agm type mp001) its a slider on the left hand side of the barrel.

Anyone got any tips for improving the power & accuracy of the Well L96, I believe it's a Maruzen clone, takes a pistol type hop up rubber I think although I'm not sure which 1 to buy, also thinking of replacing the spring, there's a few options for this too & don't know which is the 1 to go for
    1. Tanaka Sniper spring
    2.Prometheus AEG spring or similar
    3. VSR spring

    How accurate is it currently?

Have you given the parts a good cleaning?

just make sure its the right spring 8mm internal diameter 10-10.5 external diameter the spring guide in the well l96 is 7mm and the internal piston is 11.5 .if you have upgraded the piston it may take a 9mm spring guide and a 12 mm external diameter spring ,a ms90 with a small washer at the base of the spring guide will give you as close to 328 fps as your going to get, wells also suffer from air leaks where the nozzle enters the hop up due to the hop up itself being a bit on the large side where the rubber and barrel fit in,this can be fixed tho.on the accuracy side if you have not removed the barrel do so and youll find the spacers in there are crap usually foam rubber sometimes cardboard and usually found all up one end ,best advice trow them away and buy proper ones 2 should be fine 3 or 4 is even better, also the hopup nub alignment is fairly critical as theirs usually a bit of play in plastic barrel locator so take your time with it cos they have a fang type hopup arm so if its not straight the bb's will fly to the left/right
