After a lot of controversy over the past few weeks there arose a lot of controversy in Europe about secularism in schools following the court ruling of ECHR to get Italy to pay compensation to a student for crucifixes and crosses in her school. This sort of a debate resembles one we're having in Ireland as well, with the church owned primary schools being our main concern.
Seeing that this problem needs proper discussion and attention the IRSoc are holding a debate entitled 'God vs The State' this Tuesday at 6.15 in Electrical Engineering Building L1. Come along and tell us your opinions of secularism in Ireland and in the world. Do we have enough? Should we keep some of the church institutions as part of the state? Do we adopt a stric liberal approach or a more conservative one with regards to religion in our lives?
We will be inviting all the religious societies as well as the ateist society so the evening is sure to be full of interesting and controversial points, so do come along!
