dvd writer baffling me

    hi all,

really hoping someone might have some insight into this problem for me.

my dvd drive has stopped writing dvd's. everytime i try to make one when it comes to the writing stage it stops abruptly and one of two error messages appear - "check that your device is connected" or "the device is not ready".

I have checked the device manager and drivers, both of which come back up to date and working normally. when i put in a disc with something on it, it recognises it no problem. I was also told to delete the upper and lower filters, which i did but still no joy.

    laptop details as follows:

    sony vaio vgn-nr11z
    windows vista
    mat****a dvd-ram uj870qj

i just use windows dvd maker to make the dvds, which worked for me before.

i am completely flummoxed and would really appreciate any help there is.

    thanks

Trying uninstalling the drivers and rebooting, should find the drive and re-install the drivers for you.

Failing that, look for newer drivers and install those.

    is it in warranty?

The device manager says the driver is up to date, but are you getting the driver from Sony? Check the support and driver page of their website.

try 'imgburn' instead of win dvd maker and see if the problem persists.
