    Hello

    Hoping you can advise please.

We have a bay window (we have 2 but we got the sitting room one done when we moved in but it cost us 1000 euro), we are a bit tight for funds but want to now do the dining room.

Is there a place that we could source the curtain rail, also would it be better to buy the material and get someone to make them or is there a place online where we could give measurements and get them made.

    Thanks very much.

There is a very good second hand curtain shop that sell unbelievable second hand curtains. It's called Curtain & Gift Traders and is on Newtownpark Avenue in Blackrock, Co. Dublin. I and a few people I know have bought curtains there and they will alter them to fit. They're really fussy about what they take so stuff is in great nick. Just ring them with your measurements. I think they also make curtains and cushions.

(I have no connection with the shop.)

    Alternatively try buy and sell??

We didn't want to spend much on the curtains for the bay window in our bedroom so we got a metal pole that has C rings to go over the supports (much cheaper than a Swish rail). Harry Corry and Hickey's sell them - Harry Corry's are way cheaper. Then I brought the window measurements to the shop and bought 2 pairs of curtains to fit the width. I sewed them together, but if youre not good at sewing it's a good idea to ask a dressmaker to do it for you.
To find someone in your area who's a curtainmaker or dressmaker, ask around or watch out for ads in the local shops/post office. If you find someone to begin with, she'll be able to let you know if it actually would be as cheap to get her to make the curtains from scratch.

Harry Corry sell bay poles for 160 euro, Argos have a thinner pole for about 70 i think. It's well worth getting it right the first time so I strongly recommend one of these.

Pre-amble: My home is in the UK but spent the last 3 years living & working in Dublin and now returned to UK. Spent my youth sewing for Marks & Spencers followed by experiencial knowledge of I.D. (interior design) helping out a neighbour (qualified I.D. from the MOST famous high class London store).
Therefore I have always made everything 'make-able' including my own curtains using only the best materials. However last year I happened across the above Newtownpark Ave facility with Pre-loved Curtains and accessories. I bought all new curtain replacements for my home here which were far less expensive than I could have made them using the same good quality materials. I am not related in any way to this outlet.

Our branch doesn't stock those anymore - not sure if they're still in some branches. Easiest (though not as pretty) thing is to get a plastic track - you can bend 'em round the bay and they're cheap. Only thing is that you can't use eyelet curtains with them.

Also, unless your bay is more than 12feet (360cm) around there's no need to get curtains made - ready-mades come up to 130inches wide (they'll most likely be 90inches long and in most bays that means you'll need them turned up, but that shouldn't be an expensive job).
