Desktop (or anything) won't load

    My problem with my laptop is I can get as far as entering my password but after I do this and press enter instead of loading up my wallpaper and icons all I get is a back screen with the cursor.

    From what it seems to me is it's just one of the startup or display drivers won't load but I could easily be wrong.

    I was starting the computer up from hibernation where I had a video on megavideo loaded. Often if this was the case whenever I did this all I would get is a white screen but all I had to do was hit ctrl+alt+delete and it would tell me firefox and abdobe flashplayer weren't responding so I just had to close them to get everything back to normal.

    Now I can't even open ctrl+alt+delete and safe mode still just yields a black screen with the cursor and the "safe mode" and version written around he edge of the screen. I can't find a way to open any program nor will it let me open system recovery using F11 on startup either. I'm posting off a friend's laptop now.

    It's a HP laptop with Windows Vista btw.

    Any help is very much appreciated.
