Replacing IDE hard drive in a Dell Latitude with a SATA

    My 40GB HD in my Dell Latitude D610 recently failed and I bought a 250GB SATA drive to replace it. Unfortunately I subsequently discovered that the original hard drive was an IDE. I was wondering if there is a connector or adapter I can get which will allow the SATA drive to be used in the laptop?

    No, you will have to get IDE, Komplett.ie are doing 250gb Ide for e55 You could use your SATA HDD in a caddy or save it as a spare for your next laptop. :p

    Not the answer I was hoping for but at least the next time I'll make sure to check the original hdd before going ahead and ordering a new one. BTW the suggested link is for a 3.5" drive whereas I'll need a 2.5" one. I'll check the usual web sites and this time be more careful. The caddy is a good idea for the SATA drive.

    Something to make sure of is does your laptop support 48-bit LBA? A lot of those old IDE laptops don't, and it means you are essentially limited to a 137GB drive (120GB of course is the closest actual drive). You might be able to use a larger drive but you'll only get 137GB of space...and im not sure if there's workarounds using multiple partitions etc.
