Admittedly, I know little about defence matters, but if something comes up on the news or radio I'll watch or listen to it. Who do you trust on defence matters, though? I'm growing to like Caroline Wyatt who reports for the BBC.

yeah, Caroline Wyatt (i met her a few times in Kosovo - wahay, i'm a celeb!) is pretty aware: Audrey Gillian of the Guardian - while not a defence correspondant - is also very switched on in such matters. Alistair Leathead is also quite good on the 'in the field stuff'...

Frank Gardiner and Gordon Carrera (sp?) the beeb's security correspondents, tent to be more Foriegn office/SIS/SecS focused.

It's a shame Kate Adie isn't doing frontline stuff anymore, that women has balls.

isn't there some old saying about if you see Kate Adie getting off a plane, it's time to get on one or something like that. :)

Mark Urban of BBC newsnight is quite good as well - he wrote 'Big Boys Rules' as well as a couple of decent Napolionic era books.

I think it was a Spitting Image sketch or some-such until people actually realised it was quite true!!

I'd forgotten about Frank Gardiner and Gordon Carrera, but as said, they tend to deal with intelligence or security. Hear them the odd morning on BBC R4.

Kate Adie introduces pieces on the BBC's From Our Own Correspondent, not sure she has any other gigs at the moment.
