i joined my schools rugby (senior) team today i really enjoyed the training session
    i never played before.

i got on grand we did a few passing games etc.

we have a match on Friday and I'm worried if i play the match that i will mess everything up i have only a very basic idea on how to play that i got from watching Munster play.

i haven't got a clue how to tackle or how to take one and it really scares me
i think i will tell the coach that I'm not ready to play yet.

one your on the pitch you dont think like that. tackle low, and tackle hard...ask to be a sub, go on for a bit, you'll love it

How many players on the panel?
I doubt the coach would let you play off the back of one training session, unless there is an enormas injury rout.

As a last resort just tell the coach.

Has he told you what position your playing?

As was mentioned, when tackling go as low as possible and wrap your arms around to make sure they dont get away. Elverys are selling some cheap underarmour "Rugbytech" gear at the moment if ya need pads or shorts.

I have a thread called "So...i started playing rugby" here and i have all the details of what i have being going through on it, some good advice given to me in the thread it might be of help.

Main thing is to enjoy yourself!

Best of luck! Don't worry about it, everyone started somewhere (Johnny Hayes famously only at nineteen), as someone previously said; you'll probably love it.

Good luck with the match and dont worry about the anything. Alot of it will come naturally when you play you won't even think about it. When you have the ball just run hard and dont stop. When tackleing go low and they will fall and enjoy it. its a team effort so they will back you up.

    What school is it?

Same thing happened to me, was thrown in on the wing after one session and in the centre after another. Look no manager will expect anything of you and neither will your team-mates as long as you give it socks and throw yourself about, you'll absolutley love it. If you have any experience of other sports try to draw on those, you'll be nervous but as soon as you get your hands on the ball run hard and take a tackle and that should be the end of it.

    Best of Luck

well it wasn't a blitz :( it was just one match against CBS.

    we won

i went on for a few min had a good few tackles and i really enjoyed it

    it was great fun.

i cant wait for the next match.

hopefully i will have more knowledge of how to play by then.

Most clubs do provide Jerseys these days but you shoulkd check with someone else who plays on the team!

Almost 100% that they do. 99.99% to be honest. I haven't heard of a club that you have to buy the jerseys.

What age group are you playing, U19s?

No. They keep you warm/cool and dry.

You can get baselayers with built in pads. Canterbury do them. They are pricey though.
