What if Elite Triathlon events were done by Time Trial?

Very hypothetical question here but suppose the Olympic or World Championship series triathlon events were done by a Time Trial method similar to TT stages in the Tour de France (3 minutes between each person's starting time) how would this affect the results of the major elite events? This method would mean there would be no peleton during the cycle, therefore swim gains wouldnt be eroded and cycle gains could be made. Be interested to hear what people think.

Its not a case of swim gains being erodes by the group riding.

If you are out of the water with the lead pack, and you hang in with the lead pack on the bike then if you can run a sub 30 km you'll be in with a shot of winning.

If you look at the non drafting events, particularly the HIM distance, the ITU boys are moving up a distance, competeing and winning in these non drafting racings. Some are doing well at IM distance. Some are dominating.

The reason that ITU racing is draft legal is that when every swims and bikes the same standard you cannot please drafting. yes the TT solution gets around this, but fvck me it would be boring to watch and to do.

yes it would affect the results but not by that much, at olympic distance its all about the swim and run, bike not so much, even non drafting.

Not sure of the exact figures but my understanding is that drafting whilst swimming gives ~10% whereas on a bike the gain is much much more.
