Reduced entry fees

    Many races across the water have different fee structure for registered athletes and non affiliated. Clubs and regional boards could direct the extra income from non affiliates into youth development schemes.
    It might encourage club memberships.

    Yes, non UKA-affiliated members pay a £2 levy which goes to the governing body. To my knowledge AAI receive a permit fee but nothing else by way of levy on race fees. Maybe they're missing a trick.

    But no, the incentive of saving £2 a race hasn't had a visible effect on the large proportion of non-affiliated runners taking part in in races the UK. From my experience this is about 50%.

    I notice that UKA have set up a 'virtual' running club, presumably aimed at those not wishing to throw themselves into club life. I've no idea who might be joining it though, or how many.
